I have always watched American TV before I even came to St. Louis. One of the reasons was that there was nothing else that was interesting on television since I was too old for cartoons and the Indian soap operas were too bitchy for my liking. Another reason is that most of the Bollywood movies are copied from Hollywood, so I figured why not watch the original rather than a knock-off? The humor in my all time favorite series, “Castle,” was enough to keep me rolling on the floor. I was in a princess story myself while watching “Once Upon a Time.” “Melissa & Joey” is another all-time favorite especially when I needed humor to brighten up my day.

The story lines in these were very different and captivating as compared to my options. There are a lot of TV shows that i watched growing up. Some lost the captivating hold they had on me, while others I can still watch over and over and not get bored.

It is been around 4 months since I moved away from home. And to this day, I still resort to TV and movies to spice up my day. It is my never ending source of entertainment. I try watching new interesting TV shows and the best one that I always recommend is “How to Get Away with Murder.” If you are more of the comedy person, currently I am binge watching “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and it’s the nicest thing ever!

I have realized a few things about a number of series that I watch. How it would be applicable to a person in the U.S. and, for someone like me who has seen both places, I too can relate with and understand.

I watched “Oceans 8” with a friend back home, and I said to myself, how convenient for them to have a sink full of soapy water and dirty dishes. I realized when I was baking with a friend here in St Louis that that is how some people wash the dishes.

Another thing that did not add up was “Grey’s Anatomy,” S15 E1, when Jackson and Maggie are almost hit by a speeding vehicle. I thought to myself, umm look both ways and then cross maybe? Similar to what my parents taught me as a child. Upon living here for a while, I have realized that the relationship between the pedestrians and drivers is so different compared to what I have grown up with.

Having spent Thanksgiving the traditional American way, that started with an (American) football game, I now understand most Thanksgiving references, including the one about the pilgrims.

In conclusion, if all you watch are American television series, be sure to visit America at least once!
