As I’m writing this article, I am sitting in my window seat, staring at the snowflakes race to the ground. You may not think Spring has sprung and you may think I’m crazy. However, the past week has been so beautiful. Spring is on its way! I love Spring so much because after the long, grey winter, the colors come back to the world and everything comes back to life. It’s the season of new beginnings.

I first saw evidence of Spring coming when the temperatures started getting collectively warmer, little by little. I went from wearing my heavy winter jacket with gloves and a scarf to a lighter denim jacket. Plus, no boots! Of course, despite these couple of days of snow and freezing temperatures, we’re making our way to a brighter, warmer beginning.

With that, the days are longer. I finish classes and walk out to the hues of red, pink, and orange. It’s just enough to appreciate the beauty for even a few seconds. Even when days aren’t sunny, the sun comes out for a little bit. Whether I am walking to class or around in town, the rays warm my face. I find myself happier and less tired throughout the day. Thank you, Vitamin D!

There’s nothing livelier than waking up to the sound of birds singing. When they come out, you know they’re here to stay for the next several months. Unfortunately, their song disappeared through the snowy morning today, but tomorrow is a new day. They will start the new day singing their song.

The last thing I noticed, also while walking to class, was the smell of the grass and dirt. The sun’s warmth melted away the ice and brought the scent of nature. To some people, dirt probably doesn’t seem like a nice smell. The first time you smell it, it is so refreshing. Once again, the world around you has been brought back to life.

Enjoy the remaining days of winter! Breathe in all of the brisk air you can. Look at the beautiful white sheet covering the ground. But open your eyes, ears, and nose to the beginning of Spring, because she is here to stay.
