On Friday, September 14th, 2018, the Tang Teaching Museum and the Student Entertainment Council (SEC) arranged a performance for Skidmore students, which featured R&B singer Raveena and Alternative musician Fascinator.
Fascinator opened the show with an electronic music act, including synths and strong beats. His strong sound and creative look was a powerful start to the night. The small crowd of just Skidmore students allowed everyone to be somewhat close to the stage and have a more intimate experience with the music and the performers throughout the night.
Raveena Aurora, a young Indian-American woman, set up the stage with a flower-wrapped-microphone stand and soft orange, purple, and pink lights. She walked out with a serene smile on her face and her sweet vibes stayed with her all throughout the show. Before beginning each song, Raveena gave a short explanation; performing songs such as “Love Child” and “Honey”, Raveena kept the crowd’s attention by creating a more personal environment for everyone to share.
If that wasn’t enough to be captivated by Raveena, about halfway through the concert, she had the audience quiet down and take deep breaths in time with her own; this allowed the mood to calm down and let her tranquility wash over the crowd. She also dedicated one of the songs she sang to recently deceased artist Mac Miller, who she said she had recently began to befriend right before his untimely passing. The passion she brought into all her music, not just through these sentimental songs, was apparent in her voice and her movements; this produced a sensational atmosphere throughout her whole performance, which was enjoyed by almost everyone who came to see her sing.
