Galentine’s Day Reflection

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

On February 13th, I participated in my first official Galentines Day. Conceived by the one and only Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, Galentines Day is a holiday dedicated to loving yourself and spending time with your friends! In the spirit of the day, I took a trip to downtown Saratoga with a group of my lovely single friends, where we enjoyed a delicious brunch at Ravenous. We drank pink lemonade, gorged ourselves with dessert crepes, and embraced the carefree nature of time spent with your platonic lovers.

Reflecting on the outing, I have no doubt that this is a holiday that I intend to continue celebrating. It is easy to get caught up in the ideal romantic experience that is associated with Valentines Day Weekend, and even easier to end up feeling lonely and undesirable. Romantic relationships are only one type of relationship that are critical to maintain and appreciate. Appreciating and celebrating your friendships are important, and not only in the name of going out and treating yourself to delicious food. Your friends are the ones that will always have your back. Single or taken, it’s always a good idea to thank your friends: the ones that love and care for you every day of the year.
