Spotlight: Vince Pepe ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

This week I was lucky enough to sit down with the very busy, Vince Pepe. This fashionable, friendly Hawk can be found in the science center doing research or the library, most likely studying.

Hometown: Norristown, PA

Year: 2017

Major: Biology and Spanish (Smart!)

Her Campus SJU: Where did you study abroad and why?

Vince Pepe: I studied in Granada, Spain last fall. I chose Granada, because it’s a really interesting, small city. Also, it’s one of the more immersive Spanish programs that SJU offers.

HC: Do you consider yourself bilingual?

VP: I would consider myself functionally fluent in Spanish. Studying abroad really helped with my fluency, but by no means do I speak perfect Spanish.

HC: Favorite abroad memory?

VP: I loved exploring Granada. I really liked just walking around the city and finding little places to eat.

HC: Are you a good cook?

VP: I think so. I cook a lot of Italian.

HC: Fun fact?

VP: I actually used to be remotely athletic. I rowed in high school for two years and then ran cross country for a hot second. Another fun fact is that I broke my hip running cross country.

HC: Pet peeve?

VP: I can think of 20. I really hate slow walkers who take up the whole sidewalk. Also, I hate when I can see visible undershirts. I really don’t like Gwen Stefani either.

HC: What music have you been listening to recently?

VP: I really like Solange Knowles’ new album actually! ANTI, Lemonade, and Blonde are also great.

HC: What are you involved in at SJU?

VP: I do research in the environmental microbiology lab, and I am part of Institute of Clinical Bioethics. Also I am in SJU Pride, which is SJU’s LGBTQ+ group.

HC: Favorite place to get food on campus?

VP: I do frequent DB; however, a lot of my money ends up going to Starbucks.

HC: Old side or new side of the library?

VP: Freshmen and sophomore year I was always on the third floor new side. Now I do the second floor old-side, by the windows in the “silent” section.

HC: Favorite professor?

VP: From the Bio department, Dr. Arango and Dr. Bhatt. From the Spanish Department, I love everyone; they are all saints.

HC: If you could live in any city for a year, where would you live and why?

VP: I would say Miami, because it’s a great, multicultural city, and it’s nice and warm.

If you see Vince around campus be sure to say hello!

HCXO,

Katherine
