Snapshot: The Magic of Contouring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

We all have heard of the makeup trend contouring, but did you know now there are many different types to show off the highlights of your face and body.

TONTOURING

Tontouring (or tan contouring) is a type of contour where you apply self tanner to your cheek bones and other areas you wish to define.

STROBING

This contour uses shine to emphasize areas of your face that the light hits and make them appear bronzed.

DÉCOLLETAGE CONTOURING

Also known as boob contouring, this contour highlights and defines your clavicles to amp up your chest and enhance cleavage.

LIP CONTOURING

By applying different shades of your desired color, you can make your lips seem more plump and thick by using this technique. Darker shades are applied to the outer lining of your lips and blend into a lighter shade in the middle.

CLASSIC CONTOURING

This is the simplest form of contouring and it is the most popular. The technique is fast and easy.  The key is to darken underneath your cheekbones to emphasize their structure and lighten the areas you want to bring forward.

CLOWN CONTOURING

The newest technique in the contouring family is clown contouring. This unusual technique requires the use of different colors to blend together and eventually create a beautiful look.

Marina Maida, a freshman at SJU, contours everyday using the classic contour technique.

As you can see, simple contouring has evolved into many strategic techniques. Give it a try and show off your new beautiful look!
