Meet the Man Behind Think Pink: Dominic Pino

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

With his door wide open in order to make his residents feel welcome for a quick convo, Dominic Pino received me with a huge smile at his apartment in Lannon Hall. I walked over with Oreos in hand, ready to thank Dom with a small treat. However, his eager spirit and outgoing attitude left us no time for food. We started with a little interview warm up: Dominic is a senior, Food Marketing major, and double minor in Communications Studies and Pre-Law.

Dominic described himself as someone who sticks to what he believes in, which is why when I asked him what animal he would choose to be he explained, “A tiger because they never change their stripes”. His favorite song is Letter To Me by Brad Paisley. “People get surprised when I tell them I like country music” Dom added.

A few more things you should know about Dominic:

·      He is an RA at Lannon Hall and he has been an RA since his sophomore year.

·      He is the President and Founder of Think Pink.

·      He is part of the Student Senate.

·      He belongs to the Food Marketing and American Marketing Association.

·      He is a former Student Union Board Executive Member.

Question: What three words would describe you?

Answer: Dynamic, determined, dreamer. (Go Dom!)

Q: What is your favorite activity on campus?

A: It is very hard to decide. I am torn between Think Pink, Student Senate and RA.

Q: Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, can you tell me a little bit more about Think Pink? How did it start and why are you so interested about it?

A: Sure! It started as a Student Senate initiative when I was a freshman and then we decided it needed to be an organization of its own so I took over. I was really interested in it because my aunt had just passed away from breast cancer.

(Writers note: Everyone needs to make sure to stop by all the events that will be going on on-campus starting on October 20th)

Q: What would you say are the advantages of being so involved on-campus?

A: It definitely helps you develop time management skills. It also helps you grow as a whole person, which is what the cura personalis term is all about.

Dominic also mentioned that every activity in which he has been involved at Saint Joe’s helped him find his place in campus and figure out what do in his future. He said that activities like Senate helped him with his leadership and business skills meanwhile Think Pink implied him to use more of his creative side.

Q: Do you have any advice for our readers?

A: Be open with people, don’t shut them; you should give everyone a chance. And another thing, do not feel like your freshman year is going to determined how your college life is going to be like.

With this very genuine, the conversation between Dom and I came to an end. I hope that after graduation, Dominic achieves even more than what he already has here at SJU. If you ever see him around campus, do not hesitate to say hi and ask him about Think Pink.
