How to Get a Head Start on Getting into the Christmas Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

There are two kinds of people this time of year: you’re either the person that blasted Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” when the clock struck midnight on Halloween, or you’re the one who refuses to listen to Christmas music until Black Friday. Either way, if you are trying to get a head start on all the fun of the holidays, here are a few tips!

1. Starbucks Christmas flavors and cups

On November 1st, Christmas and Starbucks fans rejoiced because their favorite flavors of the year are back for two whole months AND the cups are just as warm and happy as the coffee you’re getting in it!

2. Christmas villages/activities in Philly

Starting the weekend of November 10, several of Philadelphia’s holiday favorites are opening back up, and we could not be more excited! Between Franklin Square, Dilworth Park, and Spruce Street Harbor Park, the Christmas shopping, food, and spirit is endless in Center City!

3. Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas

The best movie marathon of the year returns to Freeform officially this December 1st, but they are giving viewers an early taste of Christmas starting November 28th and 29th with early viewings of Elf and other holiday favorites.

4. PJs, hot cocoa, and red holiday Oreos

On November 1st, Nabisco wasted no time releasing everyone’s favorite red crème-filled cookie in time to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Those, along with hot cup of cocoa topped with marshmallows and whipped cream, in your favorite pair of Christmas pajamas is the cozy and easy way to feel Christmas-ed out in no time!

5. It’s never too early for carols!

Though the radio stations typically wait until the weekend before Thanksgiving to play Christmas music, Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music have hundreds of stations and playlists already loaded with your favorite Christmas classics.

6. Decking the Halls

If you are looking to decorate your apartment/dorm room/house but are on a college budget, places like the dollar store and Target have got you covered! Target is selling wreaths, lights and stockings for all under $10, and the dollar store has everything you need from fake garland and fake fireplaces for just that, $1!

Hope this got you excited for Christmas! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
