The Cheese Steak Crescent Roll: Your Tailgate Treat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.
Baseball season has come to an end, we are in the heart of football season and the NBA has just started. For us girls, this is the perfect time to wow our campus crushes by simply knowing what is going on in the sports world. However, we want to do more than wow them, right? Lets knock their socks off with not only pretending to be interested in the games, but by giving them what they really want while they sit on the couch and yell at the screen as if they are on the team: food.  When I think of Philadelphia sports, there is one thing that comes to my mind: cheese steaks. There is nothing like going to the stadium and sitting down with that hot, juicy cheese steak. However, since the college budget doesn’t always allow us to go to the game, we need to bring the game to us, starting with the cheese steak. Even though eating an entire cheese steak on the couch with your crush seems like a good idea, you will most likely have grease everywhere before you know it. Don’t fret ladies- you can have your cheese steak and eat it too, you just have to reinvent it into: The Cheese Steak Crescent Roll.
Ingredients:
1         Package frozen steak meat. (Steakums, Philly steak meat, etc.)
½ green bell pepper, diced
½ white onion, diced
2 tablespoons Ketchup
1 package of crescent rolls, unrolled, separated, flattened.
4 thick slices of American cheese (or Cheese Wiz)
1 teaspoon olive oil
Instructions:
Heat a skillet with 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Add in diced peppers and onions, cook until translucent. Add steak meat and chop it up with your spatula in the skillet. Season with salt and pepper, cook through. Add ketchup if desired.
Next: Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray, Heat oven to 375. Place crescent rolls on baking sheet. Place ½ piece of cheese at the wide end of the crescent roll. Place a spoonful of meat mixture onto the crescent roll on top of cheese. It is tempting to over stuff these, but try to remember, you don’t want it to come apart in the oven! Roll as you would a regular crescent roll, bake for 8 minutes or until brown.
Once you try these, you will never look at a cheese steak the same- not only are they delicious, they are also the perfect individual serving size!
I hope you truly WOW your sports loving man with this twist on a classic stadium staple. Go Team!!

Hi Everyone! My name is Lauren Principato. I am a Junior, 5 Year Co-Op Food Marketing Major at Saint Joseph's University! This major is so special to me because my entire life has revolved around food. I am what you can call a total "Foodie" and to be truthful, I am food obsessed! I am always looking for and creating new recipes, as well as trying exciting, different foods and restaurants every chance I can get. This year, I have had the opportunity to intern with Wegmans Food Markets in the specialty cheese shop, so yes, you can call me a little bit of a cheese expert! Aside from food, I am extremely interested in shopping, having fun with friends, working out, anything to do with animals, and my wonderful, fabulous, sorority, Alpha Phi; in which I am the Sisterhood Chair! As you can see, I have a crazy busy life, but I would not change that for a second! I look forward to sharing all I know about food, nutrition restaurants and more! With all my love and recipes, Lauren
