You can find Tyler Kelley behind the counter of the package center most days – that’s where most people recognize him from. However, he’s got such a great personality and was such a pleasure to get to know. A Junior here at SJU, he’s extremely friendly and charismatic and let us in on some funny and embarrassing stories. Read on to get to know one of Saint Joe’s most awesome guys!

HCSJU: You’re a face well known on campus now because of your job at the Package Center. What do you do there? Do you like it?
Tyler: Yea, I love it there. All of us kind of hop around from position to position every now and then so I end up doing a bunch of stuff like processing incoming packages and occasional deliveries, but what I do most of the time is run the database search for the names of anyone coming in to pick anything up.

HCSJU: What do you do when you’re not busy in class or at work?
Tyler: Usually hanging out with my friends takes up most of my free time but other than that I’d say either snowboarding or playing rugby, depending on the season. I’ve always loved being outdoors and in nature so those have been my go to for a while now.

HCSJU:  A lot of people have noticed you walking around with your arm in a sling, care to share what you did?
Tyler: Yea sure, so I tore my labrum in my left shoulder right before new years in a freak snowboarding accident involving me and a 10 year old girl who I’m convinced was on the mountain just to take me out. I wound up having to get surgery around mid February and then got stuck in that crazy sling for 5 weeks.

HCSJU: What is something really embarrassing you’ve done?
Tyler: Aside from getting taken out by a 10 year old snowboarder assassin? Hm… Ah well recently  I completely missed the doorknob for one of the doors in my house and wound up walking right into this huge wooden door in front of all of my roommates. I always make sure to open that door particularly carefully now

HCSJU: If you could have only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tyler: If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life it’d probably be either be this awesome green curry ramen from this place called Ramen Bar in the city or my mom’s special holiday taco dip. I’m honestly surprised I was able to narrow it down to just those two

HCSJU: Where’s the coolest place you’ve traveled to?
Tyler: Well I played rugby in Argentina for a bit in high school and this beach town on its east coast called Mar del Plata is always gonna be one of my places in the world, but I’d say that the most fun trip that I’ve ever been on was to visit my roommate Sam studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Two of my roommates and I spent this past spring break there with him and had an amazing time.

HCSJU:  What is the last thing you bought?
Tyler: The last thing I’ve bought was a concert ticket to the I’m Schmacked tour at Soundgarden

HCSJU: What’s an item on your bucket list?
Tyler: One of my favorite bucket list items is to actually visit Switzerland and have an amazing time snowboarding through some of the most gorgeous scenery in the world with my good friends
