6 Cocktails You Need to Make This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

For those of you who are tired of cheap beer and Burnett’s, the holidays are a great time for you to experience the finer side of drinking alcohol. We’re all headed home soon, first for Thanksgiving and later for December. Chances are, there will be lots of family gatherings in your future to celebrate the coming holidays, and there is no better occasion for making cozy drinks that make you feel warm when its cold outside and actually taste good.

I believe that drinks and cocktails bring people together, especially during the holidays. Whether you’ll cozy up with a glass by the fire or serve festive spirits at a party, I present to you my list of 6 holiday cocktails and punches that would go perfectly with smiles, great food, and chilly weather.

1.     Iced Hello Dolly – for coffee and chocolate lovers, nothing is better than this cold, milk-based cocktail. The recipe can be found here.

2.     Creamy Sorghum Eggnog – Nothing says “winter” quite like eggnog does, and pairing it with sweet sorghum adds a nice southern spin. Recipe here.

3.     Hot Spiced Sangria – Who doesn’t love sangria? This is served with a holiday twist. The recipe can be found here.

4.     Holiday Milk Punch – This delicious milk-based cocktail is vanilla-y, sweet, and will warm you up instantly. Recipe here.

5.     Poinsettia Gimlet – This is lighter tasting because of the mix of fruit juices, but will still remind you of snowy nights and holiday songs. Recipe here.

6.     Warm Cider and Rum Punch – This cocktail will bring you home as you sip it. Hints of cinnamon and fresh apples make this drink perfect for Thanksgiving. Recipe here.

It’s probably extremely hard to pick a favorite to try first. My advice: Make them all. Happy Holidays!
