10 Must-Read Books Becoming Movies

If you’re a Hollywood enthusiast or a literature lover, then take some notes because the best of both worlds is coming your way soon! Here is a list of today’s best novels being converted into movies. Some are coming out right in time for holiday plans, and others will give you something to look forward to in the upcoming year. So get reading and then start watching!

1)   The Fault on Our Stars by John Green—This novel/movie is a heart-throbbing, unconventional love story between two unique teenagers. Directed by Josh Boone, and starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, this novel/movie is filled with acerbic wit paired with the battle of terminal illness, proving to be an unforgettable pair.

2)   Divergent by Veronica Roth—Rumored to to be the “new” Hunger Games with a bit of a twist, this story is a an action-packed thriller. The reoccurring on-screen pair Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort also star in this film directed by Neil Burger. Shailene plays Beatrice Prior, a girl with a gifted mind who is targeted for destruction by an authoritarian leader. Don’t miss the newest heroine hottie!

3)   The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort—Belfort, a penny stockbroker who served time in prison for corruption on Wall Street and illegal acts within the corporate banking world, including mob infiltration. Directed by Martin Scorsese, with an all-star cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, and Jonah Hill, this movie is sure to do the novel justice…and I mean come on, who doesn’t want to see Leo in a sexy suit surrounded by lots of money?

4)   Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn—Today’s best modern mystery-thriller is being converted into a movie! A woman mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary, and mysteries appear around every corner. Directed by David Fincher, Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris.

5)   The Monuments Men by Robert Edsel—This historical masterpiece is based on the true story of a WWII platoon assigned to go into Nazi Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces. Hollywood doesn’t get much hotter than the two leading men, George Clooney and Matt Damon, and the film also stars Cate Blanchette, Bill Murray, and John Goodman.

6)   The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak—Also set during WWII, young Liesel Meminger is taken to live with a German family. When she arrives she had just stolen her first book, and will continue to steal more to fuel her love affair with books. Starring: Sophie Nelisse, Geoffrey Rush, and Emily Watson.

7)   If I Stay by Gayle Forman—Directed by R. J. Cutler, it tells the chronicle of a fatal car accident involving a young Mia and her boyfriend. This film stars Chloe Grace Moretz (currently better known as the frightening “Carrie”), Mireille Enos, and Liana Liberato.

8)   Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight—Details are somewhat ambiguous regarding the film, however, Nicole Kidman bought the rights to it (…so you know it’s going to be good!) The basic story line is about how a mother uses the world of teenage social media to cope with her daughter’s death, but there are many mysteries and revelations along the way.

9)   Serena by Ron Rash—Our favorite on-screen couple from 2013, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, return for another film together! Set in Depression-era North Carolina, a man’s timber empire is complicated when his wife cannot bear children. An economic thriller for the decades!

10) Labor Day by Joyce Maynard—A depressed, single mom and her son offer a wounded, escaped convict a ride. As police begin to search town, they soon realize the depth of the man’s past and contemplate their options. Starring: Josh Brolin, Kate Winslet, and Clark Gregg.
