Sex is a two-way street.

There is no way around it. Sex is a great experience, but only if both parties are enjoying it. Coercion doesn’t count and it never will. One person should not have to be persuaded into doing something the other person wants to do. If they’re uncomfortable, then stop immediately. If there is no immediate “Yes”, then don’t do anything.

Everyone has their own limits and comfort zones even when it comes to sex. Someone could have had sex with multiple people in the past or someone could be a virgin. Some people don’t even want to have sex ever in the first place. If someone wants to wait, then you should respect their wishes. You shouldn’t force them to do anything with you. Everyone goes at their own pace, respecting that makes it better for each person.

Consent is one of the most important things in a relationship. Sure, it may be awkward to have a conversation about it, but it’s an important conversation to have. Communication is key to a relationship, and talking about sex is part of it. Boundaries need to be set and respected. Telling someone what they like or don’t like when it comes to it is also an important factor. Everyone should feel good about it instead of it all being on one person.

It may seem like I’m repeating myself, but I’m just speaking the truth. Everyone experiences sexual events differently. It’s better to make sure that both parties are on the same page when it comes to it. If someone says no, don’t do it. If someone says yes after several no’s, don’t do it. If someone says yes the first time, then go for it.

If you can’t respect someone’s boundaries when it comes to sex, maybe you shouldn’t have sex with them in the first place.

I am a Journalism major at SJSU. I fell in love with it and I hope to travel the world to learn new things and meet new people. I hope one day to have my works published for the world to see. In my free time, I like listening to music while I scroll aimlessly through social media or talking to my friends.
