With the spooky season finally here, it’s time to bring out the pumpkins, candy corn and scary movies. Next thing you know, Halloween will be right around the corner! However, we cannot forget about the current state of our world, and what we need to continue doing to stay safe. I would definitely recommend having a movie night at home on Halloween. This allows you to relax and curl up in your pajamas with some of your favorite snacks and have a movie marathon. Here are five fun Halloween movies to watch in order to get into the spooky spirit.

1. Halloweentown

This movie is a definite Disney classic for this time of the year. While it may not be one of the scariest movies out there, it will put you into the Halloween spirit. The movie tells the story of a family that descends from witches and faces dangers that they will have to overcome. The movie also has three sequels! If you enjoy the first one, the next three will pull you in as well. If this type of movie is not your style, there are tons of other Disney Halloween classics out there that might suit you better.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Now while this movie may not be considered your typical Halloween movie, it is definitely a must-watch for this time of the year. This movie combines the idea of Halloween and Christmas, two classic holidays, without being a scary watch. The film follows the main character, Jack Skellington, who discovers the world of Christmas, and schemes up a plot to ruin it for everyone. This is a fun animated movie to put you in the holiday mood.

3. Halloween

Yes, the title of this movie is the same as the holiday. Now, this movie is a must-watch if you love a chilling thriller. The plot follows Michael Myers, who escapes from psychiatric custody on the night of Halloween, and begins searching for new victims. This is a film I would definitely watch with the lights on. The classic was released in 1978, but a remake was later released in 2018. Whichever version you decide on, you will definitely be in for a terrifying treat!

4. Ghostbusters

This is a movie for those that love a good comedy at any time. Ghostbusters is a unique story about a group of three men that do ghost removals. This film has everything you could want, with comedy, fantasy and action. This is definitely a feel-good and hilarious watch for the spooky season.

5. The Addams Family

If you decide to do a movie night in with your family this Halloween, I fully recommend you all to watch this movie together. The Addams Family is family-friendly and hilarious, and definitely a film to enjoy together. The original make of this movie was released in 1991, and the animated remake was later put out in 2019.

Although Halloween is being celebrated a little differently this year, you can still get into the spooky spirit! Let us know if you watch one of these Halloween classics by tagging us @HerCampusSJSU on Twitter and Instagram!
