3 Ways Sustainable Swaps For Your Beauty Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

As sustainability becomes more popular, you may be considering swapping out your beauty products for something more earth-friendly. Sustainable beauty products are usually organic, cruelty-free and fair-trade, but it can be difficult to find brands that are affordable too. Here is a list of three sustainable and affordable beauty brands:

Native

Founded in San Francisco, Native is a brand dedicated to providing a whole slew of personal care products that are sustainably made. Their most popular product is their deodorant which comes in a variety of different scents such as coconut & vanilla. Made without any aluminium which is a common element in many deodorants, their deodorant not only smells good but is great for your skin.

They just recently announced their decision to go plastic-free, furthering their commitment to earth-friendly products. I also love their coconut and vanilla body wash which smells incredible! With affordable prices, Native is sure to be a great start to your sustainable journey!

Burt’s Bees

Burt’s Bees is both Leaping Bunny Certified and Carbon Neutral certified, which means that they are cruelty-free and have a low carbon footprint. With products ranging from skincare to make-up to hair products, they are dedicated to being “true to nature.”

You can also gift someone a sustainable set of Burt’s Bees products! They offer a variety of bundles that are perfect for getting your friends started on their sustainable journey as well. One of their most popular products is their lip balms which are free of paraben and come in different scents. My personal favourite is the peppermint scent. Many of their products are safely made from beeswax, and they even provide grants to maintain honey bee biodiversity. Some of my other favorite products include their Lip Shine, Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream, and Honey & Grapeseed Hand Cream. Burt’s Bees is sure to become a staple in your skincare routine!

Cocokind

Cocokind products are dedicated to “conscious skincare” and with most of their products being under 20 dollars, they make it easy to be sustainable. Founded in San Francisco as well, many of their products are also certified organic. Try their nourishing moisturizers made with unique ingredients such as matcha and celery. If you are also searching for ethically-made drink powders, Cocokind also offers a Morning Mocha Latte powder and Sleep C Tonic.

You can begin and end your day with their delicious drinks, all while being sustainable! My personal favorite product is their skin butter, which has shea butter and coconut oil. This product is extremely nourishing and smells amazing.

Cocokind has a variety of products from drink powders to face masks to highlighters. It is the perfect brand to round out your sustainable beauty products!
