Transitioning From Winter to Spring: Wardrobe Tips and Tricks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

We’ve officially entered the change from winter to an early spring (Thanks Punxsutawney Phil!), and now it’s time to spend more time outside in the warmth and sun… Oh wait a minute! We’re about to enter April and the Albany area is stillrecieving snow forecasts.  As a girl who is obsessed with warm weather and will be that person to wear sandals when the temperature hits sixty, the word “snow” literally gives me the chills.  Along with having to deal with crazy weather patterns, we are now forced to deal with the issue of transitioning our winter wardrobes into spring ones.  Here are some of the tips and tricks that I have found to be most helpful:

Denim/jean jackets: You don’t have to wear those huge, puffy winter jackets anymore, but it’s still too early in the season to go outside without a jacket.  Jean jackets can be absolute lifesavers; they are not only a thicker material and can be warm on those colder, windy days, but can also serve as a super cute outfit completer. Jean jackets come in different washes and colors and can pair great with a pair of leggings and a top or a longer dress!

Break out the brighter colors: Now that the weather is starting to turn slightly warmer, you can start to wear those beautiful, bright colors that have been sitting at the back of your closet throughout the winter months! Gone are the days of plums and maroons, you can finally start wearing colors that will brighten up those days when the spring rain can’t seem to stop falling.  Just a warning to all the collegiates out there, don’t go TOO crazy with super bright colors, as those tempting neons and fun patterns should really be saved for summertime.

Light scarves: Scarves are one of my go-to accessories during the winter and the spring.  Instead of continuing to wear those thick and heavy scarves that you tend to become reliant on when the snow is covering the ground, try to experiment with something a little bit lighter.  They’re a great accessory to any outfit and they’re another layer that will keep you warm throughout the colder temperatures.

The warm weather WILL come: Don’t worry, the days of being able to walk outside and feel the temperature reach into the eighties will get here, I promise! But for now, don’t get too ahead of yourself. Leave that cute sundress and pair of wedges in your drawer for now and try to enjoy the wonderful weather that comes along with the transition from winter to spring. Don’t be afraid to wear a pair of sandals with jeans on the warm days, but remember to dress appropriately for those unexpected snowstorms in March and April.
