Olivia Waldron ’19 – Her Campus Siena Staff Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Ever wonder who the wonderful ladies are behind the Her Campus Siena articles? This year you’ll find out! Check back in every now and then for our profiles of each member of the amazing Her Campus Siena team.

Name: Olivia Waldron

Year: 2019 / Junior

Major: English with a minor in marketing

Hometown: Taghkanic, NY

HC Siena: Why did you choose your major?

OW: I chose my major because I have always had a passion for reading and writing. I started writing my first poems and stories in first grade, and I even got this cheesy poem about the moon published in this book that was basically just a collection of works by children and young people. Words and writing hold so much power and potential to make change in the world, and that is why I chose my major.

HC Siena: Why did you want to get involved with Her Campus Siena?

OW: I knew nothing about Her Campus prior to arriving at Siena. I just noticed the very aesthetically pleasing poster board at the club fair, noticed the club involved things I enjoy like writing, social media, and fashion so I decided to give it a shot. I’m very glad I did because it is a great club full of supportive women and is a lot of fun overall.

HC Siena: What is your favorite part of working with Her Campus?

OW: My favorite part of working with Her Campus is that it has given me the ability to express my ideas freely. Sometimes what you can write about in classes is restricted to prompts and topics covered in class so I am grateful to have a platform like Her Campus to use as a completely creative outlet.

HC Siena: Out of all the articles you have written, which one is your favorite and why?

OW: 10 Slam Poems by Powerful Women because I LOVE slam poetry. It’s so fun to watch because there is so much emotion involved and the poet brings the words to life onstage. Watching it is a whole different experience than just simply reading it. Slam poems usually have really powerful messages as well, and I’ve learned a lot from them.

HC Siena: What is something that makes you happy?

OW: My two-year-old baby brother always makes me happy. Now that he’s getting older he’s able to talk to me on the phone now (he called me crazy the other day!) and it cheers me up instantly. Just receiving a picture of him from my mom over text brightens my mood.

HC Siena: What would your memoir be called and why?

OW: I’m Just Here for the Food because food has been my primary motivation for showing up more times than I can count. Weddings, family reunions, parties, you name it, I was most likely there for the food.

HC Siena: If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you bring?

OW: The essentials of course: food and water. The third thing would be a yacht, so I could sail back to civilization in luxury. Even if I couldn’t figure out how to drive the yacht, I could still use it as a pretty stylish form of shelter.

HC Siena: If you could choose a mentor, who would it be?

OW: Chuck Palahniuk because I really admire his unique and unconventional way of writing, and hopefully he could teach me his secrets.

HC Siena: Why do you think everyone should read Her Campus Siena?

OW: I think everyone should read Her Campus to support Siena. Her Campus Siena puts out a lot of relevant, entertaining, and inspirational material that really speaks to college students. It’s also a great way to procrastinate when you should be studying for that test or writing that paper!
