The Best Hometown Dip Recipes for Every (Poor & Hungry) Collegiate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

It’s been said a thousand times before, so excuse me as I say it once more: the best part of coming home from school is the food. The thought of having an oven, a REAL oven, to make all of your hometown cravings come to life is nothing short of enticing.

The first thing on my mind when I get home is the dips. Tostitos are a girl’s (second) best friend – next to wine of course.

Chili Dip: easiest and (almost) quickest.

  • 1 can of Hormel no bean chili

  • 1 brick of cream cheese

  • 1 brick of pepper jack cheese OR shredded fiesta blend cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  2. Pour can of chili into any ceramic dish

  3. Slice brick of cream cheese as you would for cheese and crackers and layer slices evenly on top of the chili

  4. Slice (or shred) brick of pepper jack cheese OR fiesta blend cheese and layer evenly on top of cream cheese.

  5. Put in oven for 30 min!

Chicken Wing Dip: for those who (accurately) consider cheese and buffalo sauce a meal.

  • 1 cup of shredded white chicken breast

  • 1 brick of cream cheese

  • ¾ cup of buffalo sauce

  • 1 cup of ranch OR blue cheese

  • 1 cup of shredded fiesta blend cheese

  • OPTIONAL: chopped celery

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  2. In a mixer: add ALL ingredients and mix until combined

  3. Pour mixture into any ceramic dish

  4. Put in oven for 30 min!

Fruit Dip: at least we can pretend to be healthy?

  • 1 container of strawberry cream cheese

  • 1 smaller sized jar of marshmellow fluff

  • 1 container of cool whip

  1. Beat cream cheese in a mixer alone until it has a whipped texture

  2. Beat in marshmallow

  3. Beat in cool whip

  4. ENJOY (I prefer to pair it with strawberries – you won’t regret it)
