If you live under a rock, then let me break this news to you. Jeffree Star is a controversial makeup artist who is self-made, and Shane Dawson is the documentary series queen. Jeffree Star is well known for his infamous Youtube intros saying “Hi, how are ya.” That is something I have come to say myself after watching his videos for about 3 months now. Whether you like Jeffree or not, you can’t help but get wrapped up in his videos. The reason I bring this to your attention is because Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson just made a documentary series on Shane’s channel called the Beautiful World of Jeffree Star. This whole documentary shows the behind the scenes of making a makeup palette and the life of a self made influencer. Keep on reading to find out my thoughts on this documentary.
The Concept
This concept has never been done before on YouTube. It is so different, real, and raw, which is a side you never really see of an influencer or makeup brand. People do not realize the thought, effort, and time that goes into making a makeup collection, or even a palette. Jeffree Star is the most real YourTuber out there (in my opinion), he really puts his heart and soul into anything he makes or does. The concept was Alex Approved! (You’d understand if you watch his videos).
The Content
I thought the content was really amazing. It actually shows Jeffree and Shane mixing colors together to create their palette. We never see this side of Jeffree, he usually is in front of the camera reviewing other makeup. To see Jeffree actually make his palette from scratch made me love him even more. The thought and effort he puts into his brand is everything, and he really motivates people to do what they love! This series shows the good, the bad, and the ugly. Jeffree just lost two of his dogs and this documentary really shows his vulnerable side which we never really see. This makes him more relatable and real. Even with Jeffree’s fame, this shows that he is human too and he keeps on making videos and doing what he loves after his hard times. The day of the photo shoot Jeffree found out that one of his dogs was really sick. He could have came to the studio really upset and canceled everything. Instead, Jeffree pushed through and had the most insane and iconic palette reveal.
The Launch Day
I was one of the millions ready for this palette to be launched. I set an alarm for 12:45 and the palette went on sale at one. This was a perfect time for me, as I had just gotten out of class and was ready to roll. I sprinted to my dorm room and screamed instantly when I made it to my room. I woke up one of my roommates, opened up my laptop and waited. My roommate Abby is just as into this as me and she came screaming into the room minutes before the launch. We all stood around my laptop with my debit card in hand. It was time!!! The site broke. I was upset. Eventually the site let me add the Conspiracy palette to my bag. It broke again! I tried again, this time the palette made it to my bag and I started to put my card info in. I did it! So I thought. As soon as I put my card info in, the site crashed again. I threw my laptop across my bed ready to cry. I got an email two minutes later saying thank you for purchasing the Conspiracy palette. Finally, after months of waiting, I got the palette. I had never been so excited in my life! I was screaming, my roommates were screaming, I was about to cry. My friends started to take videos because they thought it was funny. I am soooo glad they took videos so I can look back at this in a year or two.
