9 Things to Do on Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

February 14th. Some call it Valentine’s Day. Others call it Single’s Awareness Day. If you’re a part of the SAD group, I have great news: Valentine’s Day can actually be pretty awesome if you just embrace your singleness. Here are 9 fun ways to be single and have fun on Valentine’s Day.

1. Go On a Date with your BFF

  • Sounds lame. It’s not. Get dressed up and go on a date with your best friend! Valentine’s Day is about showing the people you love that you care about them, yourself and best friends included! You’ll get to spend some awesome time with your BFF, look amazing while you’re out, eat some awesome food, and make fun of all the happy couples (if you’re bitter). Be sure to make reservations in advance to save your spot!

2. See 50 Shades of Grey

  • If you can’t have a relationship, you might as well fuel off of Anastasia and Christian’s. Grab your girl friend, and join the millions of other 50 Shades fans to see it on the big screen this Friday!

3. Throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day Partt

  • Lots of red wine, lots of candy, and lots of music (I recommend playing “Single Ladies” on repeat). These things, combined with your favorite single friends will make for an absolutely amazing time.

4. Go to the Men’s Basketball Game!

  • Get off campus with your friends and see the Siena Saints take on the Monmouth Hawks at the Times Union Center at 7 pm on Saturday!

5. Pamper Yourself

  • Get your nails done. Get a massage. Buy that designer handbag you’ve been eying for months. Eat your body weight in chocolate. It’s all 100% justifiable—think of all the money you’re saving on not having to buy a V-Day gift for your significant other. You deserve it girl!

6. Drink with your Friends.

  • Red wine is good for your heart, after all. Every time you see an Instagram post, Tweet, or Facebook status about someone and their significant other take a drink.

7. Send your BFFs Valentines.

  • If you have friends who are bitter about being single, send them flowers, chocolates, or chocolate covered strawberries. Even though this doesn’t solve your singleness, it definitely feels good to bring some Valentine’s Day happiness to those who are planning on spending their night laying on the couch with some Ben and Jerry’s and The Notebook on repeat.

8. Be Happy for Others

  • You won’t be single forever, I promise. One day, you’ll probably be just as in love as all the couples around you, so just be happy for them. Or, if you love being single, be happy that you’re not them.

9. Bum Out

  • If all else fails, spend your V-Day bumming out. Eat chocolate, order pizza or Chinese and hang out in your sweats, watching Netflix all night. Then, as soon as Valentine’s Day is over, get yourself to the nearest store to take advantage of all of the discounted candy.
