Halloween is here and it’s time to get spooky! Getting spooky can get expensive, especially for college students, so why not DIY some Halloween decorations and save money? You get to show everyone your spooky dorm decor AND won’t be frightened when you look at your bank account. Here are two ways to get your Halloween on!

Jack O’Lantern lights

Here are materials you will need:

  • Orange and black paint

  • Paintbrushes

  • Foam cups

  • Scissors

  • Lights

  • And something to put the paint on (I used a paper plate)

Step 1: Take one of the foam cups and draw on your desired design with a pen.

Step 2: Cut out the design with the scissors (be sure to do this by poking small holes around the design, the cup may rip and ruin your design otherwise!)

Step 3: Paint the whole cup orange using the orange paint (you don’t have to do the inside)

Step 4: Using the black paint, outline your design to make it pop (it doesn’t have to be perfect, just spooky!)

Step 5: Let them dry

Step 6: Poke a hole on either side of the cup so you can weave the lights through (Use the scissors)

Step 7: Repeat with different designs!

Finally: Weave the lights through and hang them up!

Candy holder

Materials:

  • Same as before except now we use the gray paint.

Step 1: Put four foam cups together and tape each of them together

Step 2: Paint the cups gray and add some black detailing

Finally: Add candy!

You can put this outside of your dorm for your fellow students to come and trick or treat! You can also poke holes on either side of two cups and hang it up with some string on your door.

And that’s it! Two simple Halloween decorations for a low price. You can use the leftover cups to pour apple cider in and give to your friends as they enjoy your candy and lights!
