Q&A with Sarah Saghah

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFU chapter.

Between “studying” for midterms, lacing up their sneaks in preparation for the daily Starbucks run, and stressing out over elaborate Halloween plans, October can be a busy time for students. For Sarah Saghah, this chemistry-turned-business student not only has her hands full with school and work, but she is also busy planning a Marketing in Focus event for the Student Marketing Association, as well as the International Women’s Day Conference for Young Women in Business. Luckily, I was able to catch her for a quick little chat about this chilly and spooky time of year before the festivities really began.

The Basics:

Hometown: Coquitlam
Currently Studying: Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources and International Business
Year: 3rd
Relationship Status: Single and not looking to mingle!

Some things we’d like to know:

Fill in the blank: Pumpkin Spice ____________
Cupcakes! With cream cheese frosting. Zoella—a beauty and lifestyle vlogger on YouTube—recently uploaded a video of her making these. I’ve tried her recipe and they’re delicious!

Favorite costume you’ve ever worn?
In Kindergarten my dream came true and I was my favourite Disney character, Snow White, for Halloween.

Quick! You have 10 seconds to describe your best Halloween makeup look.
I would use Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in the colour Alabaster to make my skin very pale. Then, I would use a matte, violet-coloured eyeshadow around my eyes to make myself look dead and tired. Finally, I would add deep purple lipstick to finish off the look—the Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick by Too Faced in the colour “Black Plum” would work perfectly.

I love that lipstick colour! What animal epitomizes Halloween and why?
I think spiders epitomize Halloween because they have eight legs and that’s very creepy to me.

Quick! Name 8 things that have 8 of anything.
One: Spiders have 8 legs. Two: Terry Fox has 8 letters in his name. Three: Pizza has 8 slices. Ummm…

If every single SFU student had to wear the exact same costume to campus, what would it be?
It would look so funny if everyone walked around looking like little minions.

Quick! If a minion came up to you and—
Stop.

Where’s the spookiest corner of SFU?
Everywhere in Robert C. Brown Hall is spooky because of the confusing maze of hallways and the dim lighting.

What is the objective of trick-or-treating?
The objective is to get as much free candy as possible and then eat it all in one night. I want my bucket filled with chocolate! Reese’s Pieces, mint chocolate Aero, Hershey’s, etc.

Can you describe the repercussions of eating all your Halloween candy in one night?
Repercussions include a tummy ache, bad skin days, cavities, and smelling like chocolate and/or candy for weeks.

Our evenings and nights here can get very chilly. How do you stay warm and energetic in this kind of weather?
I stay warm by wearing very thick sweatpants and sleeping with 3 blankets. Aside from that, I enjoy layers, scarves, and cute hats! And my rain jacket from Plen+y is a must-have this time of year. I also love drinking tea. David’s Tea is my favourite because they have a wide variety of crazy flavours, and I personally prefer mixed-flavour tea. Some favourites of mine include “The Skinny,” “Vanilla Chai,” and “Cotton Candy.”

Lastly, this is our first Halloween under the leadership of Prime Minister-elect Justin Trudeau. How will this Halloween be any different than the ones previous?
What?! I’m not sure…

Thanks for chatting, Sarah!

Status: begging mom to buy me more cheese.
