There are few things that get a person hype like a good song on their birthday. On September 20, I turned 22-years-old and to prepare for the big day, I created a playlist that had a birthday song for everybody. Turn this up when you need to send good vibes on your big day or when you want to feel like it’s your birthday and dance around your room. Here is my ultimate birthday playlist.
1. “22” by Taylor Swift
I might not be the biggest Taylor Swift fan, but I have been waiting six years to be able to caption all my social media post with the phrase “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22.” The time has finally come. This song isn’t super relevant unless you are also turning 22, but it’s a fun song regardless.
2. “Birthday (Remastered)” by The Beatles
Everyone loves The Beatles – don’t lie, you know you do. This song creates an infectious smile and it’s simply a birthday essential.
3. “Happy Birthday” by Stevie Wonder
Though the song originated as a birthday tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., it has since been dubbed the “black people version” of the happy birthday song. You know it, you love it, and when you sing it at a party no one knows when to stop. Obviously, it’s going to go on the ultimate birthday playlist. You can’t hear this song and not want to dance.
4. “Like It’s Her Birthday” by Good Charlotte
If you didn’t jam out to this song in middle school, you’re lying. You did and all your friends in their emo phase did too. Some things from middle school are worth remembering and this song is definitely one of them.
5. “Birthday Song” by 2Chainz ft. Kanye West
When in doubt, twerk it out. “All I want for my birthday is a big booty h—.” How can you not dance listening to this song? It’s a BOP.
6. “Birthday Cake” by Rihanna Is this song really about birthday cake? Definitely not. Is it a jam? Duh. Essential for any birthday— or any day really.
7. “Birthday” by Selena Gomez
Lastly, this throwback Selena Gomez song is for those who want to make every day feel like it’s their birthday. Tell the DJ play your song like it’s your birthday and let loose.
