I Can Count My Friends on One Hand . . . and That’s OK

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFA chapter.

I’ve never been that outgoing girl that has thousands of friends, and I have learned to make peace with that because it is completely normal and OK.

As college students and young adults, we have constant needs for socializing and interacting with people in order to feel part of something bigger than us. That just proves that we are only human! I am no extrovert, but as an introvert I still love interacting and meeting new people. Despite that, I can’t say everyone I meet is my new best friend.

Take some time and actually think about the people who you would do anything for— the friends who have always been there for you and who truly know you. Once you’ve done this, you actually realize who your true friends are, and trust me, you will be able to count them on one hand, maybe two in some cases. Don’t stress if you find that you only have this amount of true friends, it’s OK!

That will show you that people you will meet plenty, colleagues you won’t be able to count but true friends will be there for a life time.

Remember that it’s OK to count your friends with one hand; it’s all about quality over quantity.
