How Having a Planner Changed My Life

I’m going to start off by saying that I’m that girl in your class with 40 colored pens and one of those planners that many deem ridiculous. Well, let me tell you that it is not as ridiculous as you think, and I’ve benefited immensely from it. Midterms are finally here, so I thought I’d share my thoughts on keeping a planner.

1. Color-coding makes everything easier to understand. Personally, I have colors that represent classes, clubs, and even my job. When you associate a color with a class you no longer have to include the class name with the assignment and instead you can immediately see what what’s due for each class. The same goes for clubs and meetings. I can simply write a specific time in a specific color, and I can identify what club has a meeting or what days I work.

2. Updating your planner on a regular basis keeps you on track and focused. I used to have a hard time with due dates and deadlines, but when I finally decided to get a planner and really committed to updating it, I was actually doing assignments in a timely manner and turning them in on time. My planner is one of my main sources for crucial times such as midterms or finals so that I can keep track of my academics without losing my mind.

3. For someone like me who is a perfectionist, a planner is the perfect way to exercise those tendencies. Planners can be personalized with thousands of stickers, pages that you can add or remove, and so many other accessories just to make your planner your own.

4. Your planner gives you a sense of security. Being able to open my planner and cross off finished assignments or tests really makes me feel amazing. Not only will you be on top of everything, but you’ll feel so accomplished.
