REI, an outdoor gear company founded in Seattle 75 years ago, has declared its closing on this year’s Black Friday. They will be closing all 143 stores across the country, shutting down the website, and giving all their employees the day off with full pay. President and CEO, Jerry Stritzke announced on the website, “We’re a different kind of company—and while the rest of the world is fighting it out in the aisles, we’ll be spending our day a little differently. We’re choosing to opt outside, and want you to come with us.”
So, if you’re looking to Opt Outside, here are some fun things to do in Seattle on Black Friday that don’t involve shopping:
1. A picnic of Thanksgiving leftovers in Seward Park, an easy bus-ride from campus; catch the 7!
2. A stroll down by the waterfront at Discovery Park, 2 buses away from SU; the 12 and the 24 or the 3 and the 24.
3. A hike on Rattlesnake Ledge Trail, 44.2 miles from our home here at SU.
