Join the Fight Against Cancer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seattle U chapter.

Seattle University’s Relay for Life 2016 is approaching quickly (May 7 – 8), and I hope that you are all ready to sign up! If you don’t know what Relay for Life is, this is only it’s third year at Seattle U, and it’s growing quickly! It’s a nationwide overnight walk to support the American Cancer Society and fight back against cancer. Are you wondering why you should do this event, in the midst of finals and everything else? Well, here are a few reasons:

  1. Cancer doesn’t stop for midterms, finals, or school. Cancer doesn’t stop for anything, and neither will we. We will stay up all night (okay, we may end up falling asleep) to fight back and show our support for those who are fighting the battle against cancer.
  2. It’s a lot of fun. We are going to have live music, tons of games, and tons of activities and prizes for students. And trust me when I say this, because I’m in charge of quite a few games for the event! They will not disappoint.
  3. The people running it are amazing. Truly, I have met some of the most inspiring people in my life in the committee, and I hope that you will all be #blessed by their presence at the event. Seriously. They are all angels.
  4. It’s a great way to meet people and bond with a supportive community. Everyone at the event has been touched by cancer. For some people, it’s been a huge part of their life, and others have only heard of it, but we are all united in our efforts to end cancer and bring about more birthdays.
  5. It’s a wonderful way to honor those you have lost. At night, we light the track with luminaria bags in remembrance of those lost and those still fighting. It’s beautiful, and I hope that you can all be there to see it.

Please sign up! The registration price will be bumping up as we get closer to the event, so the sooner you sign up, the better! Hope to see you there!
