Name: Christopher Schaberg
Year: Senior
Major: Nursing
Hometown: Puyallup, WA
HC: If you had to pick actor to play you in a movie about your life, who would it be?
CS: Steve Buscemi.
HC: If you got to spend the day with one singer or band, who would it be?
CS: If had had to choose, I would spend the day with Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. He’s an accomplished songwriter, his lyrical content really speaks with me, and his skilled incorporation of world music is impressive.
HC: What’s been the most memorable moment for you as a musician thus far?
CS: Definitely Spring quarter Scratch my freshman year. It was the first time I was playing music I wrote in front of people, by myself. I was so nervous. I played it, and when I was done there was the loudest applause, and everyone in the audience stood up. It was like an out of body experience. That was the thing that motivated me to keep going.
HC: Can you elaborate a little on the name of your band, Albatross?
CS: I was attracted to the dualistic symbolism of a large graceful bird that doesn’t fly in formation. In literature it’s also referred to as a metaphor for a burden.
HC: What originally drew you to nursing?
CS: I chose nursing because I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare, but I didn’t want to have to wait 7 plus years to get my feet wet. It’s a mix of hard science, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal relations. You have to understand disease processes and understand the care going into it, but meet people’s needs on a human level.
HC: Which Disney Princess do you relate to the most?
CS: Probably Belle because I like books and I’m a free thinker.
