Why Fall is So Basic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

The start of October signifies the beginning of the most #basic of seasons. If you find yourself looking forward to these five things, chances are you’re a basic Fall girl:

1. The Outfits:

If you’re lucky enough to live in a climate where it’s not 80 degrees in September (really anywhere except for the West Coast), chances are you’ve already worn your basic Fall go-to outfit: leggings, cardigans and boots–preferably Uggs that you’ve owned since freshman year of high school.

Cardigans may be occasionally substituted for flannel, a puffy vest, infinity scarf, or an oversized boy’s hoodie.

2. The Food

In 2015 “Fall” is practically a synonym for “pumpkin.” But there’s so much more to this glorious autumnal season than just a round fruit of the Cucurbitaceae family— but don’t worry, we’ll revisit the pumpkin in Fall Basics #3.

During the fall season, everyone seems to forget about apples. They can be eaten whole, sliced, diced, in a pie… you get it. They’re perfect on their own or, even better, when paired with some cheese or peanut butter. 10/10 would recommend.

And don’t forget that Thanksgiving is located smack dab in the middle of Fall. The placement of this joyous festivity is ideal, since I’ll have already finished all of my Halloween candy, but have yet to start baking Christmas cookies.

Speaking of cookies, Fall is all about ~*those cookies*~ by Pillsbury. You know, the ready-to-bake ones in the shape of–what else?–pumpkins.

3. PSL

The PSL. If you don’t know what this stands for, congrats! You’re not basic.

Pumpkins and pumpkin spice-flavored things get their own category because frankly, they’re so deserving of one. Nowadays, everything comes in a seasonal pumpkin spice flavor—don’t believe me? Just watch.

There’s pumpkin spice flavored kale chips, vodka, Greek yogurt, cream cheese, cereal, marshmallows… the list goes on and on.

Gone are the days where the only two things that came in pumpkin spice flavors were scented candles, lattes, and uh… spiced pumpkins.

4. Halloween

Of course the most basic season has the most basic holiday: Halloween. Mean Girls nailed it when Cady said how in Girl World, “Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it.”

If you don’t know what you want to dress up as yet, be a mouse, duh.

5. The Activities:

Mostly everything you do in the fall is Insta-worthy. #perf for the most basic girl in your life, and let’s face it – it’s probably yourself.

Football game? Check.

Beautiful foliage? Check.

Bonfires and s’mores? Check.

Cute pictures with hay bales? Check.

So go out there and make this Fall the most basic one yet!
