Meals on Wheels: Pony Express

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

It’s only the first quarter and you’re already getting tired of Benson food.  Well have no fear, because now there’s another great food alternative available, and it’s right on campus!

The Pony Express, Santa Clara’s new food truck, is the latest of the numerous dining options here on campus and it definitely doesn’t disappoint.  The lunch menu features various sliders with thick kettle cooked potato chips on the side, while the breakfast menu offers items such as a waffle cone parfait, quiche, and even doughnut holes (YUM!)

I opted for two of the Giuseppe Sliders when I went to lunch last week.  The sliders are made up of a ground sirloin and Italian sausage patty topped with tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, pesto, and balsamic aioli.  These definitely did not disappoint – they were super good and two of them with a small side of chips filled me right up.

If a delicious Italian slider isn’t your thing, other types of sliders include:

  • The Bronco (A typical cheeseburger with a twist)
  • Who you callin’ turkey? (Basically, it’s Thanksgiving in a slider)
  • Caprese (Italian deliciousness; need I say more?)
  • Carolina (Southern comfort food in bite sized form)

While I can’t personally vouch for how delicious these other sliders are, I’m sure they’re nothing short of great.  One of the best parts about the Pony Express is it takes meal points! And sure, the north side of O’Connor isn’t exactly a stone’s throw away like Benson, but I guarantee it is definitely worth your while (and the new plaza is a great place to do homework, too).

But don’t wait too long to get these delicious sliders, at the end of the quarter the food truck will be offering tacos! So make sure to go check out these delicious items for a little break from those long Benson lines.

The Pony Express is open Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-3:00PM for both breakfast and lunch.

Bon appetit!
