5 Reasons You Should Scuba Dive

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCSU chapter.

Adventure

Scuba Diving is a great opportunity to get outside your comfort zone. It’s one thing to experience sea life through the glass at an aquarium, it is another to live it. You can swim alongside seals in Monterey Bay, admire tropical fish in places like Bermuda, the Galapagos, the Red sea and more!

71% of the world’s surface is water! There is plenty to explore, so what are you waiting for?

Lifelong Travel Activity

It is an especially fun and interesting sport to take part in with your significant other. Traveling to the Bahamas or Mexico for vacation? Instead of simply lounging on the beach, take the trip below the surface. Scuba diving is a paired activity, partly for safety but also because the experience is something to be shared.

Develop New Friendships

You will likely find yourself conversing with someone, either on the surface before going under or vice-versa. The community is friendly and excited for the adventure, people may ask you about conditions or give you advice if it’s a spot they’re familiar with. Furthermore, it is a diverse group of people – age and gender are not restrictions in this sport.

Further Job Opportunity

Depending on your field, a Scuba certificate can help you stand out among other applicants. If you are a fire fighter, marine biologist or researcher, this skill can be beneficial. It is unique – few people can say they are a licensed Scuba diver!

Safety

Swimming is a natural ability, people who cannot swim are usually afraid of drowning and the fear holds them back. That’s why it is so important to teach your children early. Contrary to many beliefs, Scuba diving is an extremely safe sport. The odds of getting attacked by a shark are less than that of getting struck by lightning.

It’s a beautiful world out there, don’t be afraid to explore it!

Stay wild.
