This past weekend my roommates and I were looking through Netflix to find a movie that we all would enjoy. After multiple arguments we agreed on the movie Purple Hearts, something we heard about on TikTok. The movie follows Cassie, a young adult who is trying to become a famous singer with her band. Yet, she is having trouble with her career so she starts getting low on money to the point where it effects her housing and mainly her health. That’s when Luke, a troubled marine, comes along to help her with her money situation. They agree to get married because the benefits will help both their situations, yet they can’t give up the marriage act.

The movie gives an insight to the struggles of immigrants in America along with people of a lower SES. In addition, it protrays the horrific impacts of war on soldiers on their mental and physical health. Cassie and Luke were two completely different people who started as strangers then to enemies then to friends. The cirumstances of the movie brought them closer and made their marriage more real.

My roommates and I really enjoyed this movie, definitely a rollercoaster of emotions so you might need your tissues. Eye opening to modern struggles while also making your heart melt.
