To be transparent, I started this book when I saw that a movie for it was coming out. It has always been on my read list, but I never got around to it. I decided it would be the perfect time to read the book and go and see the movie, so that’s what I did. And let me tell you, I was mad at myself for not reading it sooner. It was a beautifully written book and the imagery made it such a great beach read. The way the scenery was described helped paint the perfect picture of where main character Kya resided, and it helped set the mood for the entire book. I was surprised how easily I related to Kya. Although we live opposite lives, we are all humans who share the same emotions.

This book takes you through the life of Kya, also known as Barkley Cove’s infamous Marsh Girl, who explores the marsh on her own and learns how to survive. She becomes one with nature, falling in love with the marsh and its creatures, along with two guys who play a huge role in her life. Kya learns the lessons of survival, love, heartbreak, and strength in this book. She is put in the most dangerous positions life can put you in, but she always finds a way to get herself to safety. I learned the importance of loving yourself and mother earth, and how wonderful the world truly is. Kya learns that no matter who you are and where you come from, you can do amazing things. I recommend it to anyone looking for an easy read who loves a good mystery.
