SyFy’s “Face Off” Comes to SCAD

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD chapter.

Take America’s Next Top Model, add a dash of Project Runway, mix in some Extreme Makeover and toss in aliens, faeries, and monsters…and you get the SyFy Channel’s hit TV show Face Off. If you haven’t seen or heard about it, Face Off is a reality show consisting of talented makeup and special effects artists, mainly dealing with prosthetics, who compete against each other in various challenges and events to win a variety of prizes – ranging from money to makeup to motor vehicles.

Two of the contestants from Season Five of Face Off, Frank Ippolito and Eddie Holecko, are coming to Savannah to talk to students about their experience on the show, to give advice, and to answer questions. Frank Ippolito is a freelance makeup artist who has worked on feature films such as “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”. According to the SyFy Channel’s website, Frank “was the nerdy kid who hung out in the basement and made monsters”, which inspired his love of prosthetics and special effects, something that I’m sure a lot of SCAD students can relate to.

Speaking of which, the other speaker, Eddie Holecko, is one of them! Eddie was the youngest newcomer on the show in the season that he competed, and is currently studying Visual Effects at SCAD. The lecture is sure to be inspiring and entertaining, with these two talented guys at the helm.

Still not convinced that this event is worth going to? On their Facebook page, the SCAD Student Activities Council mentioned that every person who attends will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win tickets to the currently sold out Band of Horses concert on March 3rd. If that doesn’t persuade you to check this out, then I don’t know what else will!

The lecture will be held at the Trustees Theater at 8pm on Friday, February 21st and a valid SCAD ID is required to gain admittance to the event. Can’t attend, but still want to be a part of the action? Tweet a question and tag it with #‎SCADFACEOFF‬. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the lecture, and your questions could be picked!
