The Rules To Be Safe When Partying In College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD chapter.

Right now in college we all have had those crazy nights or know some friends that have, but recently I have heard of some unfortunate events that have happened to young ladies that have been alone. Rape, drugged, beaten, and kidnapped is all the things that can happen if you are alone at night whether you are drunk or not but I have come up with 7 rules to make sure that you remain safe!

  1. go in groups ,always at all times when going out stay with the people you came there with-do not leave with any strangers unless you are with other people you know. Being with a group can also help secure your status and decision making.
  2. Never put your drink down-NEVER- you can easily be drugged or ruffied- make sure you keep  your cup in your hand and if you do put it down don’t drink it get a fresh one (very important)
  3. Carrying Essentials- always make sure you have your phone, id/keys, and cash. I know ladies you want to carry all the make-up in the world! but make sure these three things are in your purse/clutch first.
    1. Phone-in case of emergency or if your lost someone can come pick you up/find where you are.
    2. Cash- this is important! you never know when you’ll need to make an emergency purchase or call. Bring enough to cover a round trip cab ride. And this bring me to my next rule,
  4. Never drive drunk and Never get into a vehicle with a drunk driver call a cab or uber (A customer requests a car using a smartphone app and uber sends its closest driver to their location, using the phone’s GPS. The fare is charged directly to your credit card.)And still make sure someone is with you i don’t know how much I can stress that enough that is very important.
  5. Watch your surroundings and by all means pay attention! if you feel uneasy when attending a party leave always go based off your first instinct.
  6. Know your limits-Don’t ever give into doing something you’re not comfortable doing. You know yourself better than anyone else.
  7. Make sure the people you are with are trustworthy and really your friends before you put yourself in their hands-come up with a plan before you go out  stick to it and if anything changes let each other know.
