As the academic year comes to an end, we start to forget about sleeping, eating, and sometimes dressing in decent clothes. One girl who stays on her game and dresses to impress is Alexis Atkins from Manassas, Virginia. She’s a confident fashion marketing and management major who has made the most of her freshman year.

Her Campus: How would you describe your freshman year?

Alexis Atkins: My freshman year was definitely a learning experience. I discovered that I was more capable of being away from home than I thought and that I can make decisions on my own besides the fact that Savannah is a beautiful city to get lost in to find yourself.

HC: Savannah truly is a beautiful city, we know that you love going to the beach as much as possible. What’s been your favorite memory at SCAD?

Alexis: My favorite SCAD memory is when I got to not only listen to Alexander Wang speak with humility and kindness but to get a group picture with him was the icing on the cake so to speak. I have always been a fan of his work and to see him in person was surreal.

HC: What interests you to start a career in fashion?

Alexis:  I grew up watching Mary-Kate and Ashley videos and there’s an episode where they visit FIDM and that is what generated my interest. Then That’s So Raven began to air where Raven was this huge fashionista, who was bold, innovative and strong or even True Jackson, VP where Keke Palmer plays a teenager who becomes Vice President of a major fashion company. These shows validated that I could survive in the fashion world if I worked hard enough and that I could dream big and succeed. I just wanted to embody all these powerful female characters.

HC: How would you describe your personal style?

Alexis: My style is classic with trendy influences. I love to pay homage to past decades like the fifties and seventies and modernize them for everyday wear.

HC: Your style is very versatile but you stay true to your aesthetic. What inspires you?

Alexis: I am inspired by versatility itself. I love to transform a classic item like a white button down blouse with the addition of a printed kimono or wearing a shirt over a dress so that the dress becomes a skirt. Being able to have options for a single clothing item is foundation for a great closet because at that point any combination of outfits can be crafted.

HC: Do you have a favorite fashion moment?

Alexis: Recently, at the 2014 Met Gala, Emma Stone was my favorite moment. She redefined monochromatic by having the variations of pink show not only in her outfit and accessories but in her makeup as well. I also loved how she didn’t over style the outfit. It complimented her perfectly.

HC: We love your featured article with Niambi Nelson. There are many other SCAD students similar to Niambi with character styles. How have you been inspired by them throughout the year?

Alexis: In general, getting to learn about other people’s style stories has taught me to have confidence in my fashion choices and to commit to them because if I am comfortable and I like them that is all that should matter.

HC: You have a few man crush obsessions. If you had to pick among Justin Timberlake, Diggy Simmons, and Zac Efron, whom would you go on a date with? What would you wear?

Alexis: Since I feel that Jessica Biel might not like me going on a date with her husband, I’d probably go on a date with Zac Efron. I would wear a simple knotted maxi dress, sparkling dangling earrings, a skinny black belt with a small black embellished purse and maybe a few rings.

HC: Sounds like a perfect date night outfit. What do you have planned for this summer?

Alexis: This summer, aside from working and catching up with friends and family, I’m planning on taking a trip to New York for a few days and see a Broadway play.

HC: You currently write weekly style articles for U Lala. One of our favorite posts of yours is Beanie Love. Will you continue writing with U LaLa next year?

Alexis: I will continue to write for U LaLa and hopefully produce some interesting stories.

We wish Alexis the best of luck on her finals. Be sure to follow her on Instagram @AlexisNicoleoox, I promise you’ll never be bored with her posts. Her Campus hopes everyone has relaxing summer and will be back in the fall with new campus cuties.
