The second presidential debate between the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, and the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton took place Sunday, October 9th, 2016.

If you were unable to catch the debate, the two candidates met at Washington University in St. Louis, and the debate was moderated by Martha Raddatz of ABC News and Anderson Cooper of CNN. The debate featured questions asked by audience members who were chosen by The Gallup Organization; the audience members of the town-hall style debate (meaning that the audience was allowed to directly ask the candidates questions) had not yet committed to a candidate.

The main issues discussed were the candidates’ suitability for the office of President of the United States, trade deals, ISIS, healthcare, and refugees, among numerous other topics. Audience members also asked the candidates if they felt they were good role models and if they could be a devoted president for all people.

Both candidates had to answer for scandals that surrounded them. The debate took place soon after a video in which Donald Trump makes vile comments about women and assault surfaced; the video was from 2005 and it can be viewed on The Washington Post website here. Clinton, on the other hand, still took heat from Trump over the email debacle.

According to a survey conducted by NBC News in which likely voters were asked who won the debate, Hillary Clinton was considered the winner, with 44% of those polled saying that Clinton won and 34% saying Trump won. The rest of the people polled did not believe that either candidate won.

The third presidential debate will take place on Wednesday, October 19th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
