Finding Success in Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD ATL chapter.

I’d like to discuss something that I’m sure a lot of you desire to have, and that is success. I feel like there is no correct answer to the meaning of success. Of course, it means to accomplish something. However, it also depends on how you see it and what it means to you. It can mean fame and fortune or achieving a goal. To me, success is going after what you wish to accomplish, never giving up, and eventually reaching achievement. It’s having the courage and the ability to keep going, regardless of countless obstacles and having to deal with those who ever doubted you. If there is something that is important to you, start focusing on your goals to achieve it.

Finding success can be stressful sometimes. You try hard to get to where you want to be in life, and it gets to the point where you push yourself over the limit. You start to overwork yourself and it can lead to stress. It’s important to work hard, but you should not overdo it. People push themselves forward to try to succeed because they don’t want to fail. They want to make sure that what they do is perfect and that they don’t screw up. There have been times when I always want to do certain tasks perfectly and not mess up. I always make sure that I do my absolute best, but at the same time I want to do it right. Sometimes, depending on the situation, doing your best is enough and sometimes it isn’t. It can be frustrating when you try your best, but it’s never enough. That can push you to overwork yourself until you get it right.

Whenever I fail at something, I try to focus on the idea of improving and focusing on the journey rather than the results of my failure. For example, whenever I would have an audition for a staged production or a film and I am not cast, I try to learn from my mistakes and improve myself so I can be ready for the next one. Each of my failed attempts and rejections are my key steps to success. In failure, there is a lesson. With your failures, you learn how to succeed.

I get it: you want to feel like you have accomplished something that means a lot to you. Accomplishment can be the process to become successful and with every accomplished goal you take a step towards prosperity and a life full of success. Success is but the outcome of achieving an accomplishment. In order to succeed, you must first believe in the impossible. You must decide whether your dreams and goals are worthwhile or not. You must have a straight-forward strategy and a plan to reach your goals. Work hard and dedicate your time to reach for your goals. Try to have a balance between work and rest so you won’t stress. Even if it seems impossible to do so, just remember that your health comes first, and it is important to take care of yourself. Never let discouragement stop you from pressing on. If there is one thing that keeps you from moving forward, it is doubts. Always ask for help if you need any. You should never be afraid to ask for assistance or advice if you feel like you’re stuck. It’s okay to be unsure.

But the most important thing to do to accomplish your goals and gain success is to make sure you’re happy doing it. If you’re able to find the happiness in what you aspire to do, you will find success.  After all, happiness is the key to success. When you look at other successful people, you may think that they have it easy. You may want to follow their footsteps and figure out how they “made it.” However, you don’t know how much they had to go through to get to where they are. If you follow your own plans instead of someone else’s, you’ll reach the self-satisfaction that your plans can do. The path of happiness can lead you towards the goals that you wish to achieve in life. No matter what your plans are for the future, I believe that you can achieve.
