Dallion Armeni | Medallion without the ‘Me’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD ATL chapter.

Dallion Armeni is a television production major at SCAD Atlanta. For four years she has dabbled in a variety of television production experience: she can produce a live event, a studio show and work her way into field production. However, Dallion is driven to be involved in live event producing, where she finds the chaos exhilarating. She was able to give us a moment of her time at Ivy Hall to discuss her views on writing, relationships and faith.

Her Campus: So, right now we’re sitting in one of the front parlor rooms in the beautiful, historic Ivy Hall. What brings you here? Are you interested in writing?

Dallion Armeni: I am interested in writing; I think I always have been. Every time I get the opportunity to get an elective, I usually take a writing elective because I really enjoy it. I learn a lot about myself in my writing classes; sometimes it just feels like therapy. In my screenwriting class too it was like a huge therapy session where we were all unloading our personal baggage.

HC: How would you describe your personality and does that translate into your work?

DA: I am very personable and I have a lot of energy. When I love something, everyone knows that I love it. You can see it on my face. You can hear it in my voice. It’s how I found out that I would be a good producer because I don’t think I would do as well if I didn’t have the personality that I have. I’m a good producer because I’m good at problem-solving and being around people. I work with a lot of men and it can be hard to lead a group of men, and sometimes in situations where they don’t trust me or respect me as someone who is telling them what to do, and so you have to find that line between being hard on the issue and soft on the person. That’s where I’ve found you can have the most success. And yes, you can be kind and treat people with respect. I was told that you have to be harsh in the television industry and I think a lot of people thought my personality wouldn’t survive. I can be kind, gentle and even emotional. I actually found that these things do get me a lot of respect and they serve me well, not just in television production, but it’s the little things that matter and set you apart.

HC: Are you in a relationship?

DA: I am not, that well is dry.

HC: Any prospects?

DA: I say no and sometimes I say that around my Dad and he’s like, “Oh, I’m sure people like you and you just aren’t aware of it.” I’m an initiator; my roommate and I were just talking about it. I always want the guy to initiate conversation with me and ask me out on a date, if I like them. But I’m usually the one doing that. If I want to do something, I do it. If I don’t make the first move, it doesn’t happen.

HC: Does your faith play a role in your day-to-day life?

DA: Yes, it does. It plays a huge role in everything. I believe that when you are a woman of faith, you look at everything differently. You’re looking at it through the lens of faith and you’re saying ‘OK, this isn’t a good situation Jesus, what am I supposed to do in this situation?’ Um, am I at school to get good grades or am I at school to be kind to the person beside me who’s kind of annoying? It makes your focus shift from ‘me me me’ to ‘what’s going on in the world?’ What’s happening that I need to present for? God uses us to do His work and when people are like, “Where’s God? Where’s God?” Well, where are people? That’s how He’s doing stuff. Sometimes I’m disengaged. I’m the most effective in my life, classes and my relationships with my classmates when I’m engaged with what God is doing. Okay, what do you want me to see today? Who do you want me to talk to today? I really need some patience in this Atlanta traffic right now.
