If you’re looking for new music for 2023, let me put you on to The Struts.

Formed in 2012, The Struts are a British band in the rock genre and have a similar sound to Queen and The Rolling Stones. The band consists of lead vocalist Luke Spiller, drummer Gethin Davies, guitarist Adam Slack, and bassist Jed Elliott. They have been increasing their discography since the release of their first album “Everybody Wants” in 2016. Since then, they have released two more albums, “YOUNG&DANGEROUS” in 2018 and “Strange Days” in 2020.

Getting into a new artist can be difficult and wondering what to listen to first is always the hardest part. Here are a few songs I would suggest to start your listening:

Could Have Been Me

It’s always safe to start with an artist’s most popular and recognizable song in their discography. “Could Have Been Me” is an electric song about living up to your full potential and ignoring the haters. This song might sound familiar as it was used for a TikTok trend about traveling the world and being spontaneous. In my opinion, this sound was a perfect fit for the content under it.

Fire – Part 1″ -> “Ashes – Part 2

I am a sucker for songs that tell a story and the pair of “Fire” and “Ashes” does just the job. Fire talks about the honeymoon phase of a new relationship, and how everything is amazing and you’re seeing the world in a brand new light because of this new person in your life. The catchy song talks about being young, in love for the first time, and being invincible. Ashes continues the story about how the once thriving relationship comes to an end and how going through your first breakup is crushing. All the ‘fire’ that the couple once had has turned to ‘ashes.’ The song navigates through the difficulty of moving on when what you had could never be replaced. With all the verses in this song, the story continues to talk about how much the two understood each other, and how the partner left an everlasting effect on the other, leaving only memories behind.

Somebody New

“Somebody New” is my personal favorite song by The Struts. The song is about someone who isn’t ready for a new relationship after a tough breakup. The song is describing a conversation about how moving on isn’t easy when you still have feelings from the previous relationship. This song is the perfect song to scream in the shower and has such a catchy tune that I am obsessed with.

Body Talks” (feat. Kesha)

At first, I was skeptical of this Kesha and The Struts collab since they sing in such different genres, but this song knocks it out of the park. This upbeat song is perfect for dancing around your room and this song would fit perfectly on a party playlist. The two unique sounds from the artists create a funky and energetic song that I think more people should be talking about.
