We Planned Your Family Weekend Must-Do’s So You Don’t Have To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

Ahh Family Weekend… not only a tradition but nearly a holiday here at Bonaventure. Most who come back are not only our loving parents and friends, but many are returning to their old stomping grounds– because Bonas is fueled by our AMAZING alumni.

We made the ultimate guide of things to do to make sure you get the greatest family weekend experience and they get the true Bonaventure experience… and also get your parents to cover a meal, or grocery store haul or two.

Rugby Games

Women’s: Saturday @ 11:00 a.m.

Men’s: Friday @ 6:30 p.m.

The men will continue to play in Rugby East, which is in Division 1A of USA Rugby, the highest level in the nation. The women will compete again in the National Small College Rugby Organization with the possibility of eventually moving to a higher level of competition. Even though they aren’t NCAA sanctioned (due to safety reasons), both teams have reached nearly the highest level that collegiate rugby players can reach in the nation. Even if you don’t have any idea what is going on, (like I did at my first game) it’s a great time and at times a little scary because it’s basically football without padding. However, it’s a great time sit outside and enjoy a game in the great pre-fall weather of Bonaventure with a beautiful backdrop of the Allegheny mountains. Fun for the whole family.

Bonagany

A great Bonaland tradition where the village of Allegany and the of St.Bonaventure community comes together to take over the streets. There is live music, food, games and booths set up all through the streets with everything from caricatures to how to get involved in matters important to the community. Maybe you will even see your favorite club there! This is a great way to spend a Saturday– especially with the great weather we are expected to have.

Cookout

This is one of those “do with this what you will.” Each year my friends and I have grown our cookout in size and in taste. Each year we add more food and trust me, that is never a disappointment. This is a great time for you and your loves from home and Bonas to get to hang out during the day. Grab a grill and throw some burgers and hot dogs on to celebrate all of the Bona love in the air. Nothing fancy, because we know the Bonaventure way isn’t that; but rather having as much as you can with just the necessities– burgers and beer. Photo Credit: Image Source

Burton Burger

Speaking of burgers, a Burton burger is a must for every Bonaventure student and visitor AT LEAST once before they leave. So, if you don’t have the time, space, or energy for your own cookout, let the Burton do that for you. Make sure to get a side of curly fries and secret sauce. Now your family can finally put a place to the name when you tell them the great weekend you had at the Burton… just this time without the hangover.

A Night Out on the Town

Now, if you are feeling adventurous, you can give your parents the true Bonaventure experience– a Saturday of partying and a good time. Really just all the people you love in the place that you love. But, no matter where you end up spending your night, make sure you spend some good quality time with your family.

Sprague’s for Breakfast

*The gold mine* of breakfast that everyone deserves. The trip down the road takes about 20 minutes, but it is well worth the drive. It will most likely be packed on a Sunday morning, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time. The pancakes are a must, but honestly you can’t go wrong with anything you order because you are sure to get a bountiful harvest of yummy goodness. Don’t forget they have unlimited pancakes, so order up!
