It’s that time of year again. For those of us who are too far apart to make dinner reservations or more realistically go through the late-night Taco Bell line and watch a movie, this one is for you.

1. DIY gift

My first suggestion is to send your significant other a little care package. You can get a cheap shipping box at Walmart and paint the inside pink and red. After it dries, you can paste stickers, photos or even little string lights inside the box. Fill the bottom of the box with any type of basket filler to give it some depth. On Pinterest, there are a million different ideas for cheap DIY gifts. One cute idea was to put on red lipstick and kiss a piece of paper a bunch of times. Cut the kisses out and write the different reasons why you love them on the back. Put it in an envelope that says “kisses for when I’m not around.” The rest of the box can be filled with candy, a photo album, something they have been needing and more.

2. Write them a letter

I will always be a proponent of handwritten letters. There is something romantic about a heartfelt note that is written out thoughtfully by the person you love. In the letter, tell them about what you have been up to even if you talk about it over the phone. You could add some photos of different events or photo shoots you have taken. Make a list of why you are thankful for them or a list of songs that remind you of them and why. In my letters to my boyfriend, I like to add little fun facts about animals to keep it quirky.

3. Watch a movie

Use the browser extension “teleparty” which allows you to watch streaming platforms with someone far away. This is your perfect opportunity to make your boyfriend watch the “Notebook” with you for the thousandth time. When I looked up new “rom-coms” on the internet it said “Puss in Boots.” I do not think that is a romantic comedy, but I hear it’s pretty good!

4. Call/facetime date

When Valentine’s day rolls around pick a time to Facetime and spend some time together. I have seen people make a little dinner date and then set their partner on the chair across from them as if they are together. I personally think that is strange, but as long as you are spending quality time together that is all that matters!

5. Share music

On Spotify, there is an option where you and someone else can listen to music together. My boyfriend and I like to do this when he is on the way to class because his classes are a 20-minute walk. Create a playlist of the songs you love to listen to together and new ones to share that remind you of your relationship.

6. Hang out with the girls

If you’re sad and missing your person, throw a Galentine’s day with your friends! You can make cute snacks/drinks, watch a movie, and do cute valentines day crafts. I love the guided painting videos on Youtube where they will take you step-by-step through a cute Valentine’s Day-themed painting.

Happy Valentine’s day!
