This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Name: Matt Lane

Year: junior

Major: history

Hometown: Long Beach, California

Her Campus: “You’re from California. How did you find out about Bonaventure?”

Matt Lane: “Through my junior college soccer coach.”

HC: “What were you most excited about upon coming here?”

ML: “I just liked the campus, I liked that it was out of state and had a D1 soccer program. I spent my whole life in Long Beach so I really wanted to see a different part of the country. I also liked that Bonaventure is pretty close to a lot of cities on the East Coast. When I came to visit, I got a really good feeling. I talked to Father Francis for a long time. It’s important to me to be at a place where I could grow in my faith as well as have fun and maintain a focus on school and soccer.”

HC: “Any tips for transfer students interested in Bonaventure?”

ML: “Definitely try to get involved with something and be friendly. Everyone here is friendly so just talk to people, get to know people.”

HC: “Soccer team predictions for next season?”

ML: “I think our team will definitely improve next year. We have a new coach that has only been here for a year, so he wasn’t able to recruit a lot. There were 13 new players this year, and now we have a better understanding of each other. It was really difficult to build chemistry and go against teams that have been together for two to three years.”

HC: “What were you most surprised to learn about Bonaventure?”

ML: “I was surprised about how fun the parties are. Even though it’s a small school, everyone has a fun time.”

HC: “In your opinion, what are the top three things everyone must do if when visiting California?”

ML: “Go to In-N-Out, obviously you have to go to the beach — my favorite is Laguna Beach; the best way to get there is by driving down the Pacific Coast Highway. And definitely go to Disneyland. Disneyland is better than Disney World. It’s the original.”

HC: “What is your favorite Hickey meal?”

ML: “I don’t know what to call it, but the Steve station. It’s different everyday. That’s my go-to.”

HC: “What is an interesting fact about yourself that most people don’t know?”

ML: “My grandparents are from England and my first name is actually William.”

HC: “Favorite show to binge watch?”

ML: “’House of Cards’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’”
