5 Things Undeclared Majors Hate Hearing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

I personally am undeclared science major, but we’ll see how far that goes. I never wanted to be locked into something when I came to college, so I played it safe and didn’t declare a major. Here are some of the things that I’ve heard from people and what I imagine some of my fellow undeclared majors have heard as well:

The obvious:

1.     “What’s your major?”

The annoying:

2.     “Don’t you have any idea what you want to do with yourself?”

I do. I want to become an orthopedic surgeon. I just want to weigh my options first…

The just plain annoying:

3.     “Don’t you know, it’s better to pick something now?” I

n some cases I will agree, but at least from what I’ve heard, even if you declare sophomore year, you can still finish your major and graduate on time with everyone else.

4.     “Why don’t you try Insert random school of study here?”

I don’t know. Maybe I will. Maybe I won’t.

5.     “Why are you so indecisive?”

I just want to weigh all my options and explore every opportunity that I can get involved in to get a good feel for whether or not I like something.

These are mainly some of the things that I’ve heard. What are things my fellow undeclared majors have heard?
