“The One, The Only, The Great: Allye Sneed”

i’m extremely excited about this profile because it’s on my favorite athelete at  Savannah State university! Allye Sneed is our 2 feature woman of the month for our black girl magic celebration and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Allye is one of Savannah States most inspiring, kind- hearted, down to earth women you will ever come across. She embodies everything Savannah State University, strives to instill in its students. If you would like to get to know more about one of my favorite people ( and I know you do) continue to read below!

Otissia:  What made you want to attend Savannah State University?

Allye:  Honestly, I never saw myself attending Savannah State University, yet any college or university. My original plans were always to enlist in the military right after high school, but after being told I was too smart not to go to school, I weighed all potential offers and here I am. That decision was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Otissia: What attracted you to become a part of the HBCU culture?

Allye: HBCU’s run in the family. My dad’s side of the family has been going to Savannah State since the 60’s. My mom graduated from Albany State University and her mom from Fort Valley State University. It was only right! It’s just something about seeing those who look like you excel in different aspects that it gives you a certain drive and motivation to be in the same boat.

Otissia: So far how would you describe your college career?

Allye: College thus far has been a very emotional rollercoaster filled with many highs and lows, but hey, God only gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers, right?

Otissia: What advice would you give to to incoming freshmen especially, girl athletes?

Allye:  Don’t let anyone’s opinions, goals, and/or expectations limit you. You will always have to work twice as hard as the next person, but as long as you believe in yourself nothing else matters.

Otissia: What is your favorite thing about Softball? What attracted you to the sport?

Allye: My favorite thing about softball is that it is a very individualized, yet team sport. In order for the team as a whole to prosper, we as players must better ourselves individually both physically and emotionally.

Otissia: What’s your favorite thing about your team and teammates?

Allye: The favorite thing about my team….that’s hard to pinpoint one specific thing, but I think my favorite thing about my team is that every single last one of us is unique, so we all bring something extremely different to not only the game, but Savannah State.

Otissia:Are you apart of any other organizations on campus?

Allye:  I am also a second-year Community Assistant

Otissia:  Is there any other sport you would you like to play?

Allye:  I LOVE basketball! I probably would’ve tried volleyball if I was taller.

Otissia: What are your post college plans and how do you plan on using your degree?

Allye: Upon graduating with a BS in Computer Information Systems, I plan on entering the United States Air Force as an IT with a concentration in cybersecurity.

Otissia: Who is your inspiration and what motivates you to be as successful as you are?

Allye: My siblings are my biggest inspiration. Being the oldest, comes with a lot of pressure, but I know I can’t expect greatness from them and not give them positive examples to look up too.

Otissia:  Do you have a quote you live by or that really motivates you?

Allye: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him”  – James 1:12

Otissia: What are three things that you have learned about yourself while in college?

Allye: Sometimes your life takes an unexpected course, but it’s all about how you handle it and build upon it.

Your biggest competitor is no one but yourself. Don’t put a time limit on anything, success takes time, but it will be worth it.

Otissia: What do you have planned for your Junior semester at Savannah State?

Allye: This semester will be one for the books!! Grades going up, skin will be glowing, and don’t even get me started on softball. This season we have a lot to prove to not only everyone else, but to ourselves. This is OUR season Savannah State.

Otissia:  What are your social media handles( Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat ) so our readers can follow you?

Allye:  Twitter: @allyenotali and Snapchat: @sneeeeed_15

Hi, My name is Otissia McKinnon. I was born and raised in South Georgia and now I currently attend Savannah State University as a Social Work Major. Helping those who are unable to help themselves is my passion and I intend on making it my life's work. I thoroughly enjoy writing, editing, building and branding social media content. My future plans are to build a women's organization that not only empowers the youngest of hearts but encourages girls as they grow older to be the most loving and successful versions of themselves they can be.
