Scott Timmerman, ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Scott Timmerman is a Dubuque native who is currently a junior here at SAU. Although he has been here less than two and a half years, he has made quite an impact, making him fit for this week’s Campus Celebrity.

From the moment he arrived at SAU on his first visit, Scott knew it was the place for him.

“It just felt right when I stepped on campus.”

Scott attended Wahlert High School in Dubuque, so the small campus really drew him in as well. He had also been very active in high school. Not only did he work for his family’s business, but he was also involved in many extra-curriculars. Scott ran cross country and track and played baseball. His musical side also came out in his activity in band, choir, and show choir.

Luckily for Ambrose, Scott brought that love for being active to college with him.

In academics, Scott is very motivated. He is working toward a double major in business management and general business, as well as a minor in finance.

He is also a high achiever in extra-curricular activities.

“I am the Treasurer/Spirit Chair for the Student Alumni Association, Morale Captain for Dance Marathon, a student security guard, Antioch participant and leader, Intramural participant and sand volleyball champion.”

Out of all of these, Scott is most passionate about Dance Marathon.

This is a fairly new organization on the St. Ambrose campus. The first Dance Marathon took place last spring, and Scott was involved as a dancer. This year, he is even more involved in the development and planning process as a Morale Captain.

“I have met the kids and families that we help and it is amazing to see how much of a difference we can make.”

Scott has also found inspiration to stay active and make a difference at SAU.

“The person who has really been a role model to me here at St. Ambrose has been Mark Malkowski. While he was here at Ambrose, he was extremely involved and always had a smile on his face. He truly loves Ambrose and I hope to be that person that can brighten anyone’s day, just like Mark.”

Mary is a senior at St. Ambrose University majoring in English and journalism. She is originally from Naperville, IL and hopes to one day be back in Chicago. In the past Mary has interned for Sourcebooks, a publishing company in Naperville, and this past year she studied abroad in London and interned at Parliament. She hopes to one day be an editor in publishing at a magazine or at a publishing group like Penguin. Besides being the founding editor of Her Campus St. Ambrose, Mary is also a writing tutor at St. Ambrose. In her free time, she loves to travel, hang out with family and friends, and shop a little bit too much at Gap and J. Crew!
