This week’s campus celebrity hails from Dubuque, IA. She is involved with the Student Success Center, intermural sports, and several Quad City community organizations. You may know her as the victor of the 2013 Euchre tournament or a participant in the 2013 Chicago Marathon. This semester, however, Mary has found herself in a much different role: a volunteer tax preparer at the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistant) Program in Davenport. In her own words, “I help people prepare income tax returns.” Last year, the program as a whole has helped over 6,000 people in the Quad Cities area. Mary has found that this experience has been both educational and rewarding. “I have learned how apply classroom skills in a real-world setting. I can’t wait to see what else thing program will teach me.”
