This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Here are some tips and tricks to keep yourself going while you navigate your first holiday alone. Not everyone is able to go home for the holidays to spend time with family but it is important to make the best of it and create new traditions.

  • Start a new tv show
  • Try making a huge turkey for thanksgiving (or ham for Christmas)
  • Get an animal to keep you company
  • Have a dance party in your empty house or room
  • Scream music in the shower
  • Light a nice candle to set the mood
  • Facetime or call friends and family to feel included
  • Paint your nails / do your hair fun
  • Pick up a random hobby you have always wanted to
  • Fix your sleep schedule
  • Catch up on homework
  • Go try a new coffee shop
  • Pick up a new book
  • Make a new meal (no one will know if it didn’t turn out)
  • See festive activities in the area and attend them
