Bee Insider: Women’s Soccer Team

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

As if being a college student wasn’t hard enough, these girls manage balancing school work with a successful soccer season. Get a girl who can do both, amirite? Also, these bees have recently been ranked 13 in the nation!

Get to know some of these Queen Bees:

What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memory is when we had to practice on Halloween last year so a couple of the girls decided to dress up and we had a bee, monkey, and zookeeper running around on the field playing soccer the whole practice. Javid was so mad, it was great! –Victoria Fitch, Sophomore, Defender

Going to nationals last year in Orange Beach, Alabama- Sam Lang, Sophomore, Midfield/Forward

Bonding with my Dominican Familia during our mission trip in the DR. So many good memories, good food and even better people. – Grace Farrelly, Sophomore, Defender

How do you feel about your season so far? What are your expectations for the team?

We’re off to a good start but buzzin’ for more! – MK, Junior, Midfielder

I think the team is doing really well. I have hopes for growth each game that will take them back to Alabama! – Kaelin Trippe, Senior, Outside Defender

Favorite thing to do on your off days?

I’ve recently found myself to be binge watching Grey’s Anatomy which I just decided to watch last week and I’m almost done with season 2 so I’m super productive with my time and now I’m addicted. But if I have time I like to cook and look up different creative recipes. Mostly Italian recipes. –Johanna Kistner, Senior, Outside Mid/Forward

Pretend to do homework but actually watch How I Met Your Mother in bed all day. – Natalie Mendez, Junior, Outside Midfielder

What makes this team different than the other teams at SAU?

Our teams are very close. We always are looking to be the best team we can be, regardless if you are a Varsity or JV player. Every player in the soccer program is important to the team. – Grace Farrelly, Sophomore, Defender

I think the tight bond on this team sets us apart. We can be very competitive on the field but off the field we are all very close. – Mallory Stegmueller, Junior, Defender/Midfielder

What makes you want to come back for another season?

My soul sisters- Victoria Fitch, Sophomore, Defender

The amazing people and coaches that I have met make me want to come back for another season- Sam Morgan, Freshman, Center Midfielder

SENIORS: What will you miss the most?

I love the pot luck dinner we do at the beginning of every season, this is the time for some good food and of course the seniors all get made fun of. –  Johanna Kistner, Senior, Outside Midfielder/Forward

The girls and the feeling you get right before a game! – Kaelin Trippe, Senior, Outside Defender

How do you feel about the beep test?

Bitter. I always think it’s my last time running it but then I see the orange speaker and hear “triple bleep” and proceed to just laugh at my life. -MK, Junior, Midfielder

I have never enjoyed running 20 yards in 95-degree weather more than I do during these tests. – Natalie Mendez, Junior, Outside Midfielder
