You don’t need to own the latest designer fashions to look fabulous in Paris. Accessories have a way of turning a dull outfit into a glamorous one. Here are your fall must-haves. Even if you aren’t in Paris, these items will help you deal with fall in San Francisco, as well.

1) Floppy hat
I’ve been seing these everywhere. My first thought was: floppy hats are meant for the beach or tourists. It screamed, ‘I’m on vacation.’ It was a look I stayed away from unless I was laying on Manhattan beach, but being in Paris for a few months changed my mind. Pair a floppy hat with booties, jeans and a cardigan and you look effortlessly fashionable.

2) Scarves
You can never have too many scarves! Whether you’re using it to keep your neck warm underneath a peacoat or using it to spice up a jeans/t-shirt combo, this accessory adds some fun to your wardrobe. In Paris, it’s also a must. Everyone wears scarves, even the men. If I’ve learned anything while being here, it’s that scarves go with anything and should be worn with everything.

3) Umbrella
Paris has had unusually gorgeous weather lately. Most of October was sunny and made for great sightseeing days. However, there were moments throughout the day where it would sprinkle for an hour and then the sun would come out. The weather is quite unpredictable, so it’s smart to always have an umbrella on hand. Whether it’s a small hand held one or bell-shaped, you won’t regret having one around just in case.

4) Gloves
Trust me, you’ll thank yourself for having them! I hated the idea of wearing gloves when Iwas younger. I thought they were bulky and limited me from doing the simplest activities (getting money out of my wallet, rummaging through my purse effectively, etc). However, I would rather be mildy inconvenieced than have to deal with cold fingers as I fight my way through a crowd of people in the rain. With age comes wisdom. Warm fingers means a happier you, so don’t skip out on it!

5) Rainboots
Rainboots have slowly been coming back in the States. It was a fad I tried to avoid, as the first thing I thought of was the huge yellow rainboots I hated wearing when I was younger. Like everything else, though, rainboots look much more adorable in Paris. The shape and size doesn’t matter, I like the look of the black, glossed Hunter boots. While the weather hasn’t been rainy enough for me to purchase rainboots, sporadic showers had me wishing I invested in a pair early on.
